I listened carefully today as a Captain in the Army talked about his third tour in Afghanistan.
He said one of their big projects was handing out, to locals, cut-out maps of Afghanistan. The local response was always "what's this?"
"It's your country," the Captain would reply.
If local Afghanistani people, with a literacy rate of second grade, don't even know the borders of their country, it might be hard - or impossible - to get them to DEFEND their country against Al Queida and/or the Taliban.
I supported going in to Afghanistan to get Bin Laden - but I don't support creating a nation where there hasn't ever been one!
